Emergency Over Rupture Of Natural Gas Main Ends

The rupture of a two inch natural gas line forcing an evacuation along part of Crown Street and on King Street from Crown to Pitt Street earlier this morning.

The gas line was broken while water repairs were being carried out shortly after 4 this morning.

Besides the evacuation, power had to be shut off by Saint John Energy in that area around Crown and Union Streets. Traffic was disrupted as were any trains that might be making their way along the adjacent rail line.

The situation began returning to normal shortly after 6:30 with people being allowed back into their homes and power being restored.

Crown Street at King Street East will be closed to traffic for most of the day.
