Federal Natural Resources Minister Touts Saint John As "Pivotal"

Federal Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver was in Saint John today speaking at the Atlantic Energy Summit in the Port City. He described Saint John as a key location as we move into the future of energy in this country. 

Oliver reminded the crows the economic 180 as a result of offshore oil and gas discoveries in Newfoundland and Labrador and the potential of the Energy East Pipeline to increase Canada's energy security.
 

Oliver also claimed that while decisions on fracking are up to the province. It's been proven to be safe in the West for over 50 years. Meanwhile, local activist groups including the Council of Canadians protested the summit, describing a fossil fuel future as completely backward thinking.
