The final resting place of former World Champion speed skater Charles Gorman has a new monument for him to be remembered.

A granite headstone with several pitchers of the Saint John native can now be seen at the Cedar Hill Cemetery on Lancaster Avenue.

A big crowd turned out for the dedication ceremony including 79-year old Connie Garnett who tells CHSJ News, she saw Gorman skate at the old Forum in 1936

 when she was 16.

Along with the new headstone, a portrait by artist Norm Jackson was presented to Irving Oil for their contribution toward the project.

Ironically enough, today is Charles Gorman's birthday.
