It may not look like it from the outside if you have made your way down Union Street of late, but at least on the inside, the new police headquarters at Peel Plaza is just about finished.
Police Chief Bill Reid tells CHSJ News they'll be making the big move sooner rather than later, starting likely at the end of this month when the building is turned over to the city. The Chief estimates the move will take anyhwhere from 3 weeks to a month to complete.
Reid concedes it will be a difficult move because of all the technology involved while at the same time doing the business of policing 24/7. Parallel systems of communications will be used until the move from City Hall is complete.
The provincial courts building is not expected to be up and running hearing cases until the new year.
