Two Women Rescued After Attempt to Cross to Partridge Island

Two women are safe and sound after being rescued by the Canadian Coast Guard early this morning from the break water to Partridge Island. Police tell CHSJ news the women were crossing the rocks at around 2am when one twisted an ankle and they phoned for help. The Coast Guard sent out a boat to transport the women to Long Wharf.

Meanwhile, one woman taken to hospital around one o'clock this morning with minor injuries after rolling her car on the airport arterial. Police say the 49 year old woman was trying to avoid an animal when she lost control and landed in the ditch. Four young men stopped to help her out of the car before emergency crews arrived.

And traffic along Highway One near Spruce Lake was slowed down for about seven hours last night after 50 gallons of hydraulic fluid was spilled along the shoulder of the road. The Department of Transportation was on scene cleaning up the mess from about 5pm until midnight. No word on the cause of the spill.
