Saint John Unemployment Rate Dips

The unemployment rate in Saint John dropped last month but still has the highest unemployment rate of any city in the Stats Canada survey.

The jobless rate in October was 9.4 per cent, down from 9.7 per cent in September.

The provincial unemployment rate also fell from 10.7 to 10.1 per cent despite a decline in employment.

The jobless rate is lower provincially because fewer people were looking for work last month.

The national unemployment rate for October was unchanged at 6.9 per cent.
