He says he has a passion for those who can't speak for themselves and he wants to continue to be an advocate.
Doherty lost by 7 votes in the 2010 election to current Saint John Harbour MLA Carl Killen.
Doherty says the Tories have not been very effective in this riding failing to bring up important issues in the house.
