Today Is Loyalist Day In Saint John

If you're down along the waterfront at lunchtime, it won't be as quiet as it normally is on Sundays because of the Loyalist Day Gun Salute which will be taking place at noonhour from the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal.

Members of the 3rd Field Regiment, the Loyal Company, have fired gun salutes annually to recognize the landing of the Loyalists since 1793. Captain Andrew Melvin is troop commander and he says Saint John is the only city in Canada that's honoured with a 21 gun salute.

Premier David Alward and Mayor Mel Norton will also be on hand. Saint Johners are being encouraged to attend.
