Commercial Development Regulations In Rothesay Being Reviewed

Are the rules on commercial development along Millenium Drive in the town of Rothesay too restrictive when you compare to what's happening on the Quispamsis side of Millenium Drive? Rothesay Mayor Bill Bishop says that's the question town council wants an answer to in a report that will be prepared for town council.

Rothesay Councillor Peter Lewis is wondering why all the commercial development along Millenium Drive is taking place on the Quispamsis side. Lewis points out the Superstore and Kents, which are on Millenium Drive in Quispamsis, would not be allowed in Rothesay because they would be considered too large. He would like to see the development regulations in Rothesay changed to allow for larger stores.

The previous town council rejected Wal Mart twice because of opposition by nearby residents. Bishop doesn't think that means they don't want any commercial development and it will come in time.

A Home Hardware store has just opened up in Quispamsis but Bishop notes it won't be large enough to be considered a mega store.
