Economic Growth In Province Will Be Sluggish

Economic growth this year in the province will wind up being under 2 per cent according to the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council in its latest forecast.

APEC senior economist Fred Bergman tells CHSJ News employment remains weak although he can see positive growth happening in manufacturing and with exports.

Bergman points out a number of call centres in the province have closed in the past year including Eddie Bauer here in Saint John which have contributed to weak employment.

APEC is forecasting the economies of all three Maritime provinces will lag behind the rest of the country including Newfoundland.
