Passengers who will be flying out of Saint John Airport are being advised to arrive early, check in online if possible and bring less baggage than normal if they want to avoid delays because of the strike.
Unionised workers at Air Canada in the city are walking the picket lines at the airport and Millidgeville call centre after the airline and Canadian Autoworkers Union failed to reach agreement by the strike deadline.
Picket Captain Aaron Van Wart tells CHSJ News the mood of the strikers is positive and while run of the mill workers are being asked to give up benefits, Air Canada's C-E-O is guaranteed a pension of 300 thousand dollars and just received a bonus of 4 and a half million dollars.
The federal government is giving formal notice it will table back to work legislation within 48 hours, perhaps as early as tomorrow, if the two sides don't reach a deal.
