City Is Considering a Change To The Way It Collects Garbage
Garbage pick-up in the city could be undergoing some changes in the near future.
Council approving a test pilot of a mechanized cart system for trash pick-up. Residents would rent or buy carts from the city.
Deputy Mayor Stephen Chase claims the benefits are numerous by reducing injuries to the workers and less of a mess on city streets. The city is looking into what neighbourhood should pilot the cart system.
Douglas Avenue will also be participating in a 10 week pilot project in which many households will have a 2-bag maximum for curbside pick-up. It's hoped that the limit will reduce waste, encourage recycling and promote composting.
