The Transit Commission will meet next Wednesday to talk about where to make another quarter of a million dollars worth of cuts to bus service in the city. Common Councillor Donnie Snook, who voiced opposition to the cuts that were made just after Christmas, tells CHSJ News the new reduction is part of the 2012 city budget that was passed and he's concerned about the negative impact it will have on service which for many Saint Johnners is essential to get about. The cuts would likely go into effect April 1st.
Snook is hoping if and when the provincial government approves proposed changes to the city's pension plan, there will be some extra money that could be put back into the bus service but that decision will likely have to be made by the new Common Council that will take office after the May election.
