Moms Protest Against "Death Traps on Wheels"
Death traps on wheels--that's what Isabelle Hains and Ana Avacedo call 15-passenger vans like those involved the 2008 "Boys in Red" crash outside of Bathurst. The collision of the 15-passenger van with a semi killed a total of 7 high school basketball players and one teacher.
The pair both lost sons in that crash. They are appearing at a public hearing in Saint John tomorrow morning to protest a PEI company's proposal to transport university students in 15-passenger vans.
Hains tells CHSJ news that's ridiculous considering they've been banned by the Department of Education.
Hains says there's another option--the Multi-Function Activity Bus, which is designed more like a yellow school bus and therefore much safer.
