Some of the largest companies in the province, represented by the New Brunswick Council, are proposing the H-S-T be raised.
That suggestion has drawn a swift reaction from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation whose Atlantic Director Kevin Lacey tells CHSJ News it's the wrong prescription for what ails the provincial economy.
Lacey argues the average taxpayer is falling behind the cost of living. He also estimates a 2 per cent rise in the H-S-T would cost every man, woman and child in the province over 500 dollars.
Lacey points out businesses in the province get over 200 million dollars in government grants each year and expect taxpayers to pick up the tab.
