Council Faces Pension Woes At Tomorrow's Council Meeting
Whether the long awaited resolution to the city's financially beleaguered pension plan will be reached Monday night remains to be seen.
The city wants to defer all payments into the plan until 2011 and extend the repayment period over 25 years instead of 15 which would result in lower annual contributions.
Mayor Ivan Court tells CHSJ News city workers are also being asked to make sacrifices.
If the province doesn't play ball, the Mayor says the city would have to make an additional contribution over and above what it's paying now of 9 million dollars.
That translates into a tax increase of 17 cents which Court argues is not practical.
