A big cleanup taking place around the Loch Lomond watershed which provides most of the city with its drinking water. Leah Fitzgerald of the city tells CHSJ News 200 bags of garbage were collected plus five or six tandem loads of large items which included an old pool table, construction waste, roof tiles and old kitchen cabinets.
Fitzgerald is not surprised by the amount of trash collected but she concedes it's difficult to get a handle on this illegal dumping because there are so many back roads. She's hoping people will keep in mind this is where most Saint Johnners get their drinking water from and illegal dumping along with setting fires puts it at risk of contamination.
