With a ton of "for rent" signs in windows and hammered into front lawns, it's clear that the supply of apartments doesn't match the demand.
Randy Hatfield, the executive director of the Human Development Council tells CHSJ news that the Harper government's renewed strategy to reduce homelessness could play a part in filling up those vacant units.
Hatfield tells us the Human Development Council will be releasing their annual homelessness report card on Wednesday. Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is reporting that the city has a vacancy rate of 9.7% for apartments, and it's forecasted to go up to 10% in the next two years.
