Pregnant Women Should Know Their Rights At Work

Women need to be aware of their rights as employees if they become pregnant....and employers need to respect them.

Randy Dickinson of the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission tells CHSJ News employers will sometimes find any reason to dismiss a worker who becomes pregnant because they don't want to have to deal with her mat leave--and that's illegal.

He says they have had situations once the employee tells the employers that they are pregnant before they are ready to leave, the employer
seems to change and become very critical of the employee's performance.

Dickinson says the Human Rights Commission still sees cases like this despite the strides we've made toward equality in the work force....and employers need to be aware such discrimination won't be tolerated.
