City police say the call came in just after 1am.
Two veheciles were involved in the crash near Hillcrest Road, with one man in his 30s dying as a result.
There were several passengers between the two cars, who were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A 35-year-old man is in custody and will make a court appearance later today on charges related to the crash.
The name of the victim has not been released.
