An 18 year old man has been sentenced to 30 months federal time for his part organizing what the judge called a "sad and chilling" February assault in Glen Falls.
John Alexander Adams didn't argue that he was the key orchestrator of the attack, which the victim's father described as the precursor to "43 long, agonizing days in hell" as his son was hospitalized in a coma. The victim is recovering in a rehabilitation center but will suffer long-term problems with memory loss, exhaustion, and paranoia.
Adams and another young man who cannot be named lured the victim into a shed in the East Side suburb and hit him with a baseball bat, causing skull fractures and haemorrhaging. The judge told the court Adam's youth and lack of an adult record were mitigating factors in the sentence, with also requires his to submit a DNA sample and a lifelong weapons ban.
A man who was on the run after a murder in Geary has been arrested.
Corporal Chantal Farrah of the RCMP tells us 24 year old David John Doucette, also known as "DJ", was arrested in Burton around 3:00 in the afternoon.
A 47 year old man from Geary was arrested at the scene. Harry Edward Charlie McKenna has already made a court appearance and been charged with first degree murder.
The Mounties discovered the body of a 61 year old man after responding to a 911 call at a residence on Branch Road in Geary.
Police are treating this as an isolated incident and say everyone involved knew one another.
A search of woods near Reversing Falls was unsuccessful in locating a missing woman from the West side.

Yeonhee Choi has been missing since early in the morning on April 22nd. She left home without taking her medication with her.

The government's Search and Rescue fleet is too small, and that could be an indication of the future of the Irving Shipbuilding project.
Kevin Lacey of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation tells CHSJ News that after reading the auditor general's report, he's wondering if the changes needed to fix that problem will have an effect on the procurement of shipbuilding vessels in Nova Scotia, which aren't yet set in stone. His organization will be keeping an eye on the way the federal governnment obtains aircrafts and vessels over the next few months.
He says what's needed is for the feds to move quickly when a decision is made. He says the shipbuilding project is months behind because it's stuck in administrative muck in Ottawa.
Women over the age of 69 will now be targeted to get regular breast cancer screening. Previously, the range was 50-69, but that's being expanded to include women up to 74.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the province. Last year, about 550 New Brunswick women were diagnosed and 110 women died from it. It's hoped that the wider range for screenings will help women detect it earlier. Get more information about breast cancer screening here
The RCMP's Major Crime Unit wants your help in finding a 24-year-old man in connection with a murder in Geary.
Just before 1am this morning, police responded to a 911 call at a home on the Branch Road where they found the body of a 61-year-old man.
A 47-year-old Geary man was arrested at the scene, but police are still looking for a second man. Police are looking for David John Doucette also known as DJ. He was living in Geary but is originally from Spryfield, Nova Scotia.
Doucette is a white man of medium height with a thin build, dark hair, brown eyes and a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
He was seen leaving the scene on foot wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
Police says the people involved all knew each other.
The candidates running in the Ward 3 byelection for a seat on Common Council haven't had a chance to debate but that opportunity comes tomorrow night.
They get together tomorrow night at Samuel de Champlain starting at 7. Anne Marie Mullin is running for a fourth time and tells CHSJ News there should have been more public consultation on how we pay for clean drinking water.
Mullin says people are so negative in the city because of what they see as poor decisionmaking by past Councils.
She says Enterprise Saint John, the Board of Trade and Uptown Saint John have to be more accountable about what they're doing to attact new businesses to the city.
Mullin, who says she doesn't even give tap water to her animals, argues there should have been more public consultation on how to fund clean drinking water.

Rob Francis of Operation Lifesaver says they find this method very effective in showing the importance of safety to teenagers. He says all collisions at railways crossings are unavoidable unlike other types of collisions.

Lead investigator Dave Perry tells CHSJ News despite the fact Ken Estabrooks' crimes happened years ago, progress is still being made today with over 12 alleged victims coming forward.

Former Sea Dogs coach and general manager Jacques Beaulieu and his son, former Sea Dog defenseman Nathan Beaulieu face assault charges after an altercation at a house party in the Sarnia, Ontario area last weekend following a golfing event. Court appearances are scheduled in June. Nathan Beaulieu played four seasons with the Sea Dogs and was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens. He played for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League this season. Jacques Beaulieu was coach and general manager of the Sea Dogs from 2006 to 2009 and is now with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League and is a finalist for coach of the year.

The husband of missing West side woman, Yeonhee Choi, is offering $50,000 for any information that could help locate her. Choi has been missing since last Monday. Keith Brideau of Historica Developments tells CHSJ News Hayes used locations ranging from the roof of Magnolia/Bourbon Quarter, to Princess Street in front of Hayward and Warwick, the Saint John Airport and more.

At this point, Saint Johners are aware of the late Saint John Police Officer Ken Estabrooks, who was convicted on four counts of indecent assault back in 1999 and served jail time before his death in 2005.
Although Estabrooks has passed away, the investigation into the alleged abuses is continuing. Mayor Mel Norton tells CHSJ News common council has committed an additional $100,000 toward the investigation by ISN on top of the $100,000 this council originally committed. Norton says he hopes the investigation will wrap up by the end of this year. While the Mayor made it clear he is not able disclose the details of the investigation, he would say this council is making it a priority to try and right the wrongs done in the past.
Point Lepreau began sending energy to the grid on Monday with the reactor currently at 35 per cent power.
In a release, NB Power says fuelling will resume in the coming week.
President Gaetan Thomas says the issues they have been managing in their first five months of operation are normal with a restart following a refurbishment. Thomas says NB Power customers can be assured that the period of low production at Lepreau does not diminish the total lifetime output expected from the plant.
A proposed 3 per cent tourism levy on campgrounds is not going over well with the campground owners who are unanimously opposed.
The money collected would be earmarked to promote tourism. Howard Heans has operated the campground at Harding's Point for years and tells CHSJ News the campgrounds advertise on their own websites.
Heans points out this levy would increase the tax rate at campgrounds in the province to 16 per cent compared to only 5 per cent in Maine and he fears campers will migrate to Maine in droves as a result. Heans argues the camping business in the province is flat right now or may even be dropping and now is not the time to increase the tax burden.
