Melting snow and ice is a sure sign of spring. But the city's Parks Operations Manager tells CHSJ news that even with the mild temperatures we've been seeing, as of yesterday the ice is still over a foot thick, making it strong enough to be safe. They measure the ice at Lily Lake a few times a week, depending on the weather.
He says right now the issue isn't that it's dangerous, but that it's messy, with two inches of slush and water on top of the ice.
